Welcome to the Escondido Neighborhood Blog.
The Escondido Neighborhood Association (Escondido) is an effort to improve the quality of life in the Escondido Neighborhood. Escondido is nicely located in the City of Bryan, between two main areas of focus and bridges the gap between Historic Downtown and Blinn College.
Escondido residents are working together to promote and facilitate citizen communication, participation, art and involvement in local governance.

How does Compost Work?
Compost provides an almost constant source of a soil amendment. The organic materials in the compost help your plants grow by loosening the soil and allowing better root penetration. Compost increases microbial activity, which creates a healthier environment for plant growth, while the texture improves moisture retention in your soil. Compost even helps moderate the pH of your soil. Through regular use of compost, you can drastically reduce or even eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers, which saves money and reduces contamination from run-off of our waterways and drinking water.

The Bryan Police Department would like to encourage all Bryan residents that have burglar alarms to ensure they are registered. Recently the City of Bryan partnered with PMAM to monitor and register alarms within the city. They will provide false alarm prevention education and research alarms that are not registered. The registration fee for residential and commercial alarms is $75.00 for a 3 year permit. Residents are encouraged to go to www.bryantxpolice.com and click on the Alarm Permits on the right side of the page. There is a link (register online) where the alarm owner can register the alarm online from the convenience of their own home or business. The site also allows them to monitor the history of their alarm activity.
The Bryan Police Department responds to all residential and commercial alarms that are dispatched through Brazos 911. The home owner or business is allotted 5 free false alarms per calendar year. After the 5th false alarm a fee of $50.00 is assessed to the home owner or business owner. False Robbery alarms are assessed a fine of $100.00 per incident. PMAM will help in identifying the cause of the false alarm and educate the public in an effort to prevent false alarms. The Bryan Police Department spends approximately 45 minutes investigating each alarm call and historically approximately 98% have been false in nature. The goal of the partnership with PMAM is to reduce these numbers.

At the open house, there will be an opportunity for the public to view informational displays and aerial maps, and to provide input to the study team that is developing proposed solutions to identified problems.
The City of Bryan, jointly with The District, is contracting with Alliance Transportation for $85,000 to perform the study. It covers the area bound by Sims Street to the west, Texas Avenue on the east, 18th Street on the north and 29th Street on the south, including the impact of the planned downtown parking garage.
“We hope to get some good suggestions and recommendations that will provide opportunities for mitigating parking challenges in the downtown area,” said Nikki Norton, the City’s graduate civil engineer.
Residents who are unable to fill out a survey during the monthly First Friday event this weekend can do so online at www.bryantx.gov. The consultants are scheduled to deliver a draft report to city officials in mid-January and will present their findings to the City Council in late January.
